Blue hopi corn

Blue Hopi Corn is a warm-season flour corn that prefers full sun and fertile, well-drained sandy loam or loamy soil. Plant after frost when the soil has warmed to at least 50–60°F (10–16°C), sowing seeds 1–2 inches deep.

Growing conditions: Grow in blocks of at least four short rows for reliable wind pollination. Space plants about 8–12 inches apart with 24–36 inches between rows. Maintain moisture during germination, tasseling, silking, and kernel development; the plants become more drought-tolerant once established. Enrich the soil with compost and provide nitrogen during active growth. Hilling soil around the stalks can help prevent lodging in windy areas.

Harvest and storage: For dry flour corn, leave ears on the stalk until kernels are hard and husks are brown and dry. Air-dry the ears thoroughly before shelling and store the grain in a cool, dry place to prevent mold.
